10 Questions with Donald Waugh

Boomerang:
Hi Donald, thank you for joining us today!

Donald:

My pleasure. So happy to be Looper of the Month.

Boomerang:

Our readers would love to hear about how you became part of the Boomerang family. Let's dive right in!

Donald:
Let's do it!
Boomerang:
First off, does your Mom know you're here and did she sign your permission slip?
Donald:
Haha! Hold on, I think I have it somewhere. Nope, my dog ate it along with my homework.

Boomerang:

Ok, first question.....where in the world is your coffee table and did you buy at IKEA?

Donald:

My coffee table is in Strathroy Ontario Canada where I reside. Didn't get it from IKEA. Bought it from a guy out of the back of his van in a dark alley

Boomerang:

What style of music/genre' do you play?

Donald:

Reggae, jazz, Neo Soul, R&B and pop but lately I'm experimenting with Gangsta Polka.

Boomerang:

When did you first start looping and how did you come across it for the first time?

Donald:

I started looping with an old Behringer V-Amp, which only gave you a few seconds, so it was just a simple groove or drone but it did get me started to love looping. I eventually grabbed the D**** looper when I got hired to perform solo onboard Cruise Ships. The D**** looper only lasted 8 months. It broke luckily at the end of a set. I quickly ordered the Boomerang Looper and also downloaded the manual to study as I waited a week to get my new looper. I was able to Duck tape the D**** for that week thankfully. When I received the Boomerang it was a lot easier to use than I thought. It was miles better than the D**** in every way, including built quality and features. I guess you get what you pay for.

Boomerang:

How did you hear about the Boomerang Looper and end up buying one?

Donald:

I heard about Boomerang on Youtube while researching which looper I wanted to use after the V-amp. At that point I could not afford one but it was my dream to own one and my dream came true. I purchased my Boomerang Looper used but I want a brand new one. I still use my Boomerang everyday since I got it in 2013.

Boomerang:

What's your favorite feature about the Boomerang?

Donald:

It's built like a tank and very reliable.

Boomerang:

What's the best reaction you ever got using your Boomerang at a gig?

Donald:

Best reaction I have had was when I was doing a show on a Carnival Cruise ship and I decided that I should start looping my vocals which was new territory for me seeing I only looped my guitar or bass. Doing beatbox and bass drove the crowd wild. That was when I knew I had an act that was truly special and would only get better.

Boomerang:

What's the worst gig you ever had and all the things that went wrong?

Donald:

The worst gig would be performing out doors 2019 in London, Ontario. Sound check went smoothly but as soon as I started, it started raining and the tent was not big enough to stop the rain from blowing onto my gear. The microphone shocked me on the lips and the looper and effects went crazy. Fortunately I was able to quickly pull down and run for cover. That was a crappy day and worst gig for sure.

Boomerang:

Wow, that's crazy! I'm glad that you got out of there alive!

How many gigs did it take before your Boomerang became a FREE pedal?

Donald:

It paid for itself in one gig. Now it just makes me money!

Boomerang:

Lastly, what's your best ice cream story?

Donald:

My best ice cream story would have to be the day I had ice cream with my son....He's the best kid!

Boomerang:

Thank you so much for joining us today. It was a pleasure having you here.

Donald:

It was fun. Thanks for making me Looper Of The Month!
